01- God Chooses the Powerless

Mar 31, 2014Uncaged Podcast

I’m bursting with joy to announce my very first podcast. Be watching Mondays for each new episode. Since this is a new endeavor, I really, really would appreciate your feedback. My goal is to make this podcast highly valuable to you, to help you live uncaged and free, no longer tethered or bothered by your past.

I’m grateful for the help of Christy McFerren, Andy Traub, Thomas Umstattd, Toby Lyles, Cliff Ravenscraft, and Brad Crabtree for all their expertise and help getting this off the ground.

Visit here every Monday for a new episode!

What you can expect each week:

  • Stories of God’s ability to uncage us.
  • Authenticity.
  • Scripture.
  • Less than 30 minutes.
  • And I always end with prayer.

This first episode is simply my story, told raw and real. This is me at nearly five years old, right before the sexual abuse started.

The basis for my story:

1 Corinthians 1:26-29 NLT

Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.

I’ve written my story in two places:

Three Important Scriptures & One quote:

Psalm 71:20-24 NLT

You have allowed me to suffer much hardship,
but you will restore me to life again
and lift me up from the depths of the earth.
21 You will restore me to even greater honor
    and comfort me once again.

22 Then I will praise you with music on the harp,
because you are faithful to your promises, O my God.
I will sing praises to you with a lyre,
    O Holy One of Israel.
23 I will shout for joy and sing your praises,
    for you have ransomed me.
24 I will tell about your righteous deeds
    all day long,
for everyone who tried to hurt me
    has been shamed and humiliated.

Isaiah 43:18-21 NLT

 18 “But forget all that—
it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.
19 For I am about to do something new.
See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness.
I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.
20 The wild animals in the fields will thank me,
    the jackals and owls, too,
for giving them water in the desert.
Yes, I will make rivers in the dry wasteland
so my chosen people can be refreshed.
21 I have made Israel for myself,
and they will someday honor me before the whole world.

Job 42:5 NLT

I had only heard about you before,
but now I have seen you with my own eyes.
