Do you have regrets around your relationships? Do

Do you have regrets around your relationships? Do you feel heavy carrying around the mistakes you made? Do you feel helpless in repairing the damage?

I hear you. I’ve struggled to let go of those failures. Not that I dismiss them or don’t grieve them. Not that I don’t repent. But that once I’ve done all I can, I understand I can’t fix what remains. So I have to surrender it.

There is peace in letting go of my timetable. There is hope that comes from letting God be creative in the ways he ushers in surprising reconciliation.

When you’re at the end of yourself and your efforts, surrendering is a necessary and beautiful act.

In this little piece, I portray a broken relationship as a severed bridge. To reconcile either both have to build the bridge toward each other, or there is some supernatural intervention.

Sometimes our bridges remain unconnected, and we surrender so we can weather the severing with grace and intention.

And sometimes a sweet miracle occurs.

But it all begins with relinquishing…

God beckons us to be good Samaritans to those facing trauma and sexual brokenness in the aftermath of abuse, to provide safe places to heal in community.

Life’s been a bit wearing these days. So one morning, with very little verve, I threw open my Bible to a familiar passage.

I’ve shared it below. But here’s what I noticed for the VERY FIRST TIME ever. God is near-ish in David’s life, when he leads David, renews him, and guides him. God is there, in third person, a bit removed.

But when the darkest valley accosts David, he suddenly switches the pronouns of God from third to second person. There is a closeness to the word YOU. It connotes connection and nearness and relationship.

When David encounters enemies, God again moves from The Lord to YOU. And not only that, this personal God is not only beside us, he is working. He does things. Not only comforting us, but building tables for us and preparing a much needed feast.

But there’s still more, this second-person YOU God lavishes David in his darkest moments with anointing. He fills David’s once-empty cup with blessings. And this YOU pursues David’s heart and life forever.

I find great comfort in the juxtaposition of YOU with our darkest valleys. It’s like what Job tells us at the end of the book. My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you” (Job 42:5). In Psalm 23 we see David moving from hearing to experiencing.

That’s my prayer for you too, that you would know God as YOU in the darkest moments, that he wouldn’t appear to be The Lord far away, but a powerful, amazing friend who is WITH you.

Yeah, me too. There will be light. You will me

Yeah, me too.

There will be light.

You will meet people who truly follow Jesus.

There is such a thing as a humble Christian leader who is not interested in personal glory or empire.

You will laugh again.

Joy will return.

Small places will become cathedrals of God’s presence.

You’ll find your taste in worship has changed from booming spectacle to quiet reverence.

You’ll see Jesus on the faces of the unexpected and outcasted.

You will find life coming back into your bones, sinews too.

You will realize that death comes before resurrection.

You will appreciate the upside down nature of God’s economy, where the first are last, and the last are first.

You will sing again.

Your prayers will become frank and earnest.

You will be loved by your God.

You may lose friends.

But you will find your life, and it will be far more lovely than you can imagine.
