Why feeling wrung out is okay

Yesterday I told Jesus, “I feel wrung out.” I pictured a rag, full of dirty water, being twisted until nothing was left. Then I pictured the poor rag thrown across a chair in our back yard in the 100-degree Texas  heat. In about four minutes, that wrung out rag would be dry as dirt.

Just like me.

I wallowed a bit in that.

Then the still, small voice of my Savior whispered, “That’s okay.”

“How can that be okay?” I asked.

“When you’re that wrung out,” He said, “you can absorb the water better.”

Oh how true! How amazingly true! I’m thirsty! Are you? Well, then, the good news is that we serve a watering God! He will bless you with waterfalls of His presence!

Would you take a moment right now to submerge yourself in these scriptures below? Really read through them and see what refreshment God has for you. I know it will change your day.

“The LORD will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.” (Isaiah 58:11)

”Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart’” (John 7:38).

”For I will pour out water to quench your thirst and to irrigate your parched fields. And I will pour out my Spirit on your descendants, and my blessing on your children. They will thrive like watered grass, like willows on a riverbank” (Isaiah 44:3-4).

“Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. It flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations” (Revelation 22:1-2).

“Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink—even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk—it’s all free!” (Isaiah 55:1).

”Jesus replied, ‘If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.’’But sir, you don’t have a rope or a bucket,’ [the woman at the well] said, ‘and this well is very deep. Where would you get this living water? And besides, do you think you’re greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us this well? How can you offer better water than he and his sons and his animals enjoyed?’ Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life’” (John 4:10-14).
