I sang the words, “Glorify your name” this Sunday at church. I meant them. And then I thought about God’s name: Yahweh, Jesus, Holy Spirit. The triune God. His name, His character infuses the Bible. He is the author, the writer, the initiator of all things. He writes the book. And since He writes it, He gets the glory for it.

It made me think about the books I write. My prayer is that they are so infused with His ways that He seems to be the author. I hope His name graces the stories, the explanations, the tenets. I hope His character is evident throughout the words I write.

But even more than that, I’d love it if people saw Him when they see me. That they see the Author of my life in full glory. That my life wouldn’t be about pointing to the mere words and ramblings of my life, but about pointing to the One who has saved me in every way.

All this thinking about books and authors and The Author led me to Revelation.

Revelation 20:12-13

“And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done.”

There is a very important book that I want to be in: the Book of Life, the Book God has authored in lives redeemed. His name is all over that book, how He writes each person’s story (who is willing to let Him author it), how He gave life for each life represented. Whether you write a book in this lifetime, what’s more important is whether God has written your life, whether, at the end of time, you will hear from His mouth, “Well done good and faithful servant.”
