Now on to my chat with Susie:

What would it look like for you to live uncaged in 2012?

~ Several years ago my husband and I felt the inner nudge to make a ten year goal: in ten years we want to be living on half our income so that we can give the other half away. For me, to live in uncaged in this next year is to take a giant leap forward in the tangible ways we give. On a more regular basis we want to surprise the weary mom by paying for her groceries in line at the grocery store. And we want to dig deep and give sacrificially to end human trafficking. To live free is to live less selfishly this year than we did last year. Dear Lord, fill us with faith!

What has prevented you from living a truly free and unencumbered life in the past?

~ Definitely fear, worry, anxiety, and a pile of college debt. Yet, we’re learning that you conquer a mountain, one step at a time. Though our goal is audacious and our offerings seem to move us ahead at a snail’s pace, we can look back and note significant progress. We’re moving forward. And God continues to supply, surprise, and overwhelm us with His faithfulness.

Give my readers advice. What’s one practical thing they can do this year to live uncaged? (This can be silly like dancing in the rain or serious like eat more chocolate.)

~ Consider yourself a flow-through-account of God’s blessings to a world in need. Open your hands and give as He leads. Go to the grocery store, pray for a divine appointment, and pay for someone’s groceries. Then dance for joy when you get home.

Who in your life is an excellent example of living uncaged? Why?

~ Beth and Jay Loecken. I had them on my show a few months ago. They sold their home, bought an RV, and travel the country with their children to minister to communities in need. I’m not called to do what they do, but I marvel at their willingness to follow Jesus where He leads. May we give God full access to all that we are and all that we do. I know this: His will for us is our best case scenario.

If you could design a Live Uncaged sweatshirt, what would it look like?

~ I picture a sweatshirt with a cool embellishment across the chest that subtly looks like a field of grace. 🙂 With these words printed in cursive just above the embellishment: I Am Free
