Last night I had the privilege of speaking to Unveiled, a women’s ministry at my church. It was my first time speaking the message of The Wall Around Your Heart. I prepared, as I always do, but I had this deep down impression that the blank spaces in my notes were meant to be there–that the Lord will fill the gaps with His specific encouragement for others.

And wow.

He did.

This is so not about me and what I say.

It is SO about God and what He wants to say to a hurting crowd. Before I speak, I usually pray this Scripture: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. (Psalm 19:14).

I could see as I spoke that folks were “getting” the message that God gives them utter and true worth, that it’s time we lay aside our expectations in relationships and ask God to fill us all the way up.

This is why I speak. To see lights go on. To illuminate those trouble spots in folks’ lives so they hunger for God to heal them. The quote at the top of this post deeply, truly blessed me because it confirms what my hope has been for speaking–to help others know themselves and Jesus better.

Speaking to me is a form of discipleship, of training people to surrender their stress and burdens to a God whose shoulders are big enough to carry every single pain, infraction, sin, worry and angst. I speak so others can be uncaged.

I’d so appreciate prayer today. When I speak and see dynamic change, I often have a down, difficult day/week in the aftermath. And please pray for the women who attended Unveiled, that the message would sink deeply, that healing would take place.
