Singing Great Theology

Oct 12, 2008Archive

I thrilled today. Truly thrilled. We sat as we started singing this hymn, but the congregation of several thousand couldn’t sit when the last stanzas came. There is something absolutely beautiful about singing great, deep, pithy, true theology to the God who made heaven and earth. I felt like I was singing His words, His deeds, His power, His beauty. My words connected to my voice, combined with everyone’s voice, to His Holy ears.

I love being raptured in worship, to lose myself to His majesty. To forsake my own petty “needs” and focus instead of His outrageous act of love on the cross. This is true worship, to lose your selfishness in the light of His purity.

Let the words wash over you today.

Before the throne of God above
I have a strong and perfect plea
A great High Priest whose name is Love
Who ever lives and pleads for me
My name is graven on His hands
My name is written on His heart
I know that while in heaven He stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart
No tongue can bid me thence depart(X’s2)

When Satan tempts me to despair
And tells me of the guilt within
Upward I look and see Him there
Who made an end to all my sin
Because the sinless Savior died
My sinful soul is counted free
For God the Just is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me
To look on Him and pardon me

Behold Him there! The risen Lamb!
My perfect, spotless righteousness
The great unchangeable I AM
The King of glory and of grace
One with Himself I cannot die
My soul is purchased with His blood
My life is hid with Christ on high
With Christ my Savior and my God
With Christ my Savior and my God

One with Himself I cannot die
My soul is purchased with His blood
My life is hid with Christ on high
With Christ my Savior and my God
With Christ my Savior and my God
With Christ my Savior and my God
