2-12 – Jimmy Hinton

Nov 28, 2016Restory Show

Jimmy Hinton is a child protection advocate, a pastor, a husband and a father. In 2011, after learning that his (pastor) father had molested young girls, he and his mom turned him in to authorities. He is now serving a 30-60 year sentence, and won’t be eligible for parole for 30 years.

How Our Stories Intersected

Jimmy and I met in person in September as members of GRACE. Together with several others, we’ll be helping churches become certified in child safety procedures. If you’d like to learn more about that, click here. But we actually talked on the phone a couple years ago about the story he’s sharing with you today. Every time I hear his story, I want to stand up and cheer. Jimmy believed the victims. He turned his father in to authorities. He did one of the bravest, gutsiest things I’ve ever seen done on behalf of victims.

He is now spending his life helping protect others from sexual abuse. He is unpacking the mind of a pedophile (his father) in order to warn us all about the traits and dangers of these kinds of offenders. Please be praying for him. This is dark, difficult work. Truly, Jimmy is one of my heroes.

In this episode Jimmy shares about his upbringing, the day he found out his father was a child molester, the roller coaster ride of turning him in and the long road to sentencing. In the episode I also mention his mother’s gutsy blog about what it was like being married to a pedophile.

As in all my episodes, I pray for you at the end. It’s my sincere hope that you’ll walk away from the Restory Show changed and challenged.

The End

  • If this episode has literally knocked your socks off (sorry if your feet are now cold), would you please consider telling your friends and enemies and pets?
  • And leaving a review will help get the restory show in many more earbuds. Thanks in advance!

I heard about Jimmy a year a 2 ago, and I thought, “Oh my gosh! I’m not the only person who was raised by a pedophile!” Our stories are different, but I relate so much to that emotional turmoil.

What a difficult story. I’m grateful you’re thriving today.

I usually don’t feel like I’m thriving. Probably because for so many years I did everything I could to pretend it never happened. 25 years of numbing and escaping with alcohol to put up a facade of normalcy to cover up the wreck I was on the inside. It’s taken a lot of work to stop numbing and face that part of my past so that I can finally heal. But more than that, God has shown me so much grace.

How brave to STOP numbing. Wow. I’m grateful for you.
