In Praise of Seed Packets and Fresh Earth

Feb 24, 2008Archive

I thrust fingers into dirt
claying my nails
enlivening a gardener’s hope
that someday the night-hued soil
will sprout life
in the shape of
sugar peas
patty pans
bok choi
shallots
roquette
stevia
royal burgundy beans
lemon cucumbers
February sun days
are when I dream
of seeds sprouting
reaching to the horizon
stretching their leafy wings
and living
simply living
