In our backyard…

Some of you may be aware of the Sunnyvale Middle School incidents that happened last year, where older eighth grade boys sodomized and threatened smaller, vulnerable seventh graders. It freaked me out reading the story, knowing my son would be headed to junior high this year. You can read the story here.

But here’s something that made my blood boil. At the end of the article, it said this:

“Coaches suspended some of the alleged attackers from athletics in April, but a few were back practicing football this summer at the school. Mr. Williams said coaches and personnel were watching the boys closely.”

Oh how nice! Well, it makes me sleep better knowing that SOME of the attackers were suspended and that the others were being watched closely. Is there no penalty for brutality? Or does the necessity of football trump a person’s actions?
