I’m a Literary Agent Now

Split Grid Interview LinkedIn Post Header

I am bursting with joy to share this exciting announcement today. It’s been in the works for a month . . .

I am now officially a literary agent with Books and Such Literary Management alongside Janet Grant, Wendy Lawton, Barb Roose, Cynthia Ruchti, and Rachel Kent. Though I am a words girl, I have a hard time explaining how joyful I am about this move.

Almost the moment I learned anything about publishing—way back in the 1990s, I began to teach other, potential authors. I have shepherded writers toward publication even before I was published. It’s in my bones, this desire to coach and encourage. After writing 40+ books, building my own platform from scratch, making numerous mistakes, and fostering strong relationships in Christian publishing, I feel prepared and ready to walk into this new calling.

I will continue writing, podcasting, speaking, and creating art (so pray for me about balance). But my main job will be agenting authors. I’m looking forward to seeing new voices with good, strong theology out in the marketplace.

You can find out more about the journey and what I’m looking for as an agent here: booksandsuch.com/our-agents/meet-mary-demuth/

I want to particularly thank my own mastermind group and my prayer team for helping me walk through this decision. And I’m grateful for my husband Patrick’s voice in this. He’s been an incredible cheerleader. My three now-adult kids have also cheered wildly! Thanks Sophie, Aidan and Julia for encouraging this dream.

Mary, I’m thrilled to hear of your new role as a literary agent. I first found you through your memoir, Thin Places, and was impressed with your transparency and your literary chops. I read Worth Living, while I was experiencing the depth of God’s grace in my life. I wrote you an email about a decade ago while I was writing a book about an epic failure in my life, and I was amazed that an author I considered accomplished and famous would answer me right away.

There’s so much more to say about your influence on my life as a believer and an author, but I will sum it up by saying, CONGRATULATIONS, and I hope to submit my latest project to you soon.
