God loves Good Work

Jane at Girl Meets Paper asked if I’d join her link up this week, and I said I’d be happy to. This is the verse she asked all the bloggers participating to respond to:

Philippians 1:4-6
In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

There’s so much here to respond to, but what catches my breath is “good work.” It’s God-initiated, God sustained, and God completed. Good work starts, continues and ends with Him.

He loves good work. He loves us. The marriage of the two is our God-breathed passion and how it intersects His amazing kingdom.

Stop a moment, take a breath, and ask God to show you the work He has specifically planned for you to do. Look over your life from the past ten years and trace the thread of God’s work in your life. What work has He given you? Have you felt like giving up? Are you tired? Overwhelmed?

Take solace in this: it’s God’s job to complete your work. He started it, and He will complete it. Your job is to be faithful.

Last week when I received my latest royalty statement (believe me, I didn’t feel like royalty reading it), I wanted to give in to despair. Why am I doing this crazy job? Why put words on the page? What is the point?

But God.

He told me to do this. So I write, no matter how the outcome frustrates me.

So, discern your work, then do it with all your heart, leaving the outcome in God’s hands. Work in His strength, not yours. Be faithful in small things. If you do, you’ll see change and growth and impact.

Q4u: What dream do you have right now that feels impossible?
