God is our personal bravery

Recently, I had breakfast with my friend Grace from New Zealand. During our time of catching up and sharing stories, she quoted Habakkuk 3:17-19 in the Amplified Bible. How the words wove together surprised and encouraged me. Take a moment now and read them over:

Though the fig tree does not blossom and there is no fruit on the vines,

[though] the product of the olive fails and the fields yield no food,

though the flock is cut off from the fold and there are no cattle in the stalls,

Yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will exult in the [victorious] God of my salvation!

The Lord God is my Strength, my personal bravery, and my invincible army;

He makes my feet like hinds’ feet and will make me to walk [not to stand still in terror, but to walk]

and make [spiritual] progress upon my high places [of trouble, suffering, or responsibility]!

Have you considered those words before, that God is your personal bravery?

When you feel terrified or fretful or completely stressed out? You are not your own bravery, though you try. I am not my own bravery, though I fight to be in control of it. No. He is our bravery.

He is our invincible army.

His army, His sovereign ways, cannot be thwarted. If God is for us, not one person or villain or circumstance can knock us out forever. Do you try to be your own invincible army? Are you tired of fighting like a crazy person? Are you battle weary? God is your invincible army. Rest there. Let Him take up the battle. Lay down your sword.

God enables us to move even when we’re too frightened to do so.

He helps our feet, our will, our heart move ever forward. Do you trust Him for the next step? Seven steps from now? A marathon from now?

Where we struggle, He enables progress.

When you walk through suffering and trouble, He will help you not only walk through it, but grow you in the process. And as you feel deeply responsible for everything around you (as if you were God and He is not), He reminds you (me!) that He is the Responsible One, the One Who Shoulders It All.

Q4u:

How has God been your personal bravery in the last six months?
