Are you a Fret Fanatic?

Well, in case you were wondering, I am a Fret Fanatic.

It’s amazing to me just how many times God asks us not fret, fear, worry, stress. The skeleton of Scripture seems to be this mandate to fret not.

And yet I fret.

And I don’t seem to think (at least consciously) that fretting is wrong. It’s so woven into the fabric of me, it’s just how I process life. I fret. I freak out. I worry.

My grandmother of my same name worried like a fanatic. She would create things to worry about. I remember thinking, I don’t want to be like that.

And yet I am.

My fallback is fret.

  • When the accountant calls about my tax form.
  • When my daughter has a financial need.
  • When my son is away at the beach.
  • When the dog needs minor surgery.
  • When my books don’t sell like I’d hoped.
  • When that friend turns her back.
  • When the bad review surfaces.
  • When my house is in disarray.
  • When there is tension in the house.
  • When I fail.
  • When I step on the scale.

So, Lord willing, during Lent I’m actively GIVING UP fretting, folks. (Click to tweet). I have this graphic in front of my computer monitor to remind me to replace that fret with faith. I’ll keep you posted on my journey, okay?

What about you? Are you a Fret Fanatic? (Am I the only one???) Or what have you decided to give up for Lent?
