Cute Jeanne tagged me with this fun exercise.

Here we go.

1. One book that changed your life.

Peace Like a River by Leif Enger. It showed me I could write literary suspense. I loved that book.

2. One book that you have read more than once.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I could read it every quarter.

3. One book you would want on a desert island.

The Holy Bible, but a different version this time. I’m smitten with NASB, but would like to try ESV.

4. Two books that made you laugh.

Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. That lady could make Eeyore laugh. Bad Idea by the Hafer brothers. I’m reading it to Sophie right now and we can’t help but laugh throughout the whole thing. Very rare!

5. One book that made you cry.

The Memory Keeper’s Daughter by Kim Edwards. The tears caught me by surprise because the book didn’t end as neatly as I’d expected it to.

6. One book you wish you’d written.

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. That prose is like fine dark chocolate. Or chocolate fondue. Or that molten chocolate cake stuff. Man!

7. One book you wish had never been written.

The Missing Person’s League by Frank Bonham. Why? Because if you can believe this, I wasn’t much of a reader as a kid (a huge regret), but I did read this book several times. Got it through the Scholastic Book Club. And wouldn’t you know, but drew a complete blank when I wrote my essay to get into honors English in high school. The only book I could remember was this one. Though I did get into the class, the teacher had an amused tone when she asked, “Now, what made you think of that book?”

8. Two books you are currently reading.

OK, this is weird, but I’m re-reading Authentic Parenting in a Postmodern Culture because I’m brushing up for next week’s TV interview! And I’m reading The Road by Cormac McCartney.

9. One book you’ve been meaning to read.

Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry.

10. Five people that I tag: D’Ann, Ann, Little Bridget, Marcus, Katy (You know, this is fun. It’s an eclectic group. We could have a very fun and interesting party!)
