Julia brought home a picture yesterday. It made me smile and thank God.
On it was a drawing of two girls, both wearing triangle skirts and crooked smiles. A heart soared above them like the sun. It was pierced by two arrows. The words above said, “Julia est ma copine pour tout la vie,” which means Julia is my friend for all of life.
It was penciled by the other Julia, the girl who used to shove her down on the playground.
“Julia’s my friend now,” my Julia told me when she showed me the picture. Whereas I know that first grade girls live in a fickle society, I rejoice that God answered a prayer, changing an enemy into a friend.
That’s the grace of God.
