Jesus is a child of David. There are many prophec Jesus is a child of David.

There are many prophecies that connect the line of David to Jesus. Jesus is the fulfillment of David’s kingly reign that lasted a short time (in terms of eternity). Jesus’ kingdom is everlasting because he is alive still!

Jeremiah 23:5-6 says:

For the time is coming,”
says the Lord,
“When I will raise up a righteous descendant
from King David’s line.
He will be a King who rules with wisdom.
He will do what is just and right throughout the land.
And this will be his name:
‘The Lord Is Our Righteousness.’
In that day Judah will be saved,
and Israel will live in safety.

We see the fulfillment in the first chapter of Matthew. Jesus does descend from the lineage of David. But as you read through the Jeremiah passage, you see such truth. Jesus DID rule with wisdom. He DID what was right and just. He DID make a way for Israel to have peace.

His is not an earthly kingdom, however. He did not come to wield a sword in a political victory from Rome. No, he waged a greater war against the powers of darkness, welcoming anyone who would call on him to his family. We are living in that age of grace today.

I painted a harp, as that was one of King David’s primary ways of worshipping and connecting with God. And yet, in Jesus, he is the one TO BE worshipped, an interesting reversal.

If you’d like to me this January to read the whole Bible through in three months, you can sign up here: marydemuth.Com/Bible

If you’d like to jump on an insta live with me, DM me for the scheduling link. We are scheduling into January now.

And even if you are afraid to read the Bible rapidly, consider picking up a copy of the book. The practice has honestly changed my life. I want that for you, too.
Jesus is a child of Jesse. In Isaiah 11:1-2, we r Jesus is a child of Jesse.

In Isaiah 11:1-2, we read:

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
from his roots, a Branch will bear fruit.
The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—
the Spirit of Wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might,
the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—
Judah, my son, is a young lion
that has finished eating its prey.
Like a lion, he crouches and lies down;
like a lioness—who dares to rouse him?

This is quoted later in Romans 15:12.

Jesse is King David’s father. His name means King or God’s Gift. From his stump (life) will come a branch that bears much fruit. Of course, we see Jesus bearing much fruit as he loved people well on earth. I painted this Advent card as a stump with a leafy branch to symbolize this fulfillment.

Isn’t it amazing that something that appears dead (a stump) becomes vitally alive? See how that echoes the life, death, and resurrection of King Jesus?
