19 – Do I really have to forgive?

Aug 4, 2014Uncaged Podcast

I had a product on this site where I shared the healing journey, how God heals your broken heart. Instead of selling it, I am going to give it to you for free in six installments. This is installment number four. Hooray!

The Gist:

We cannot heal if we hold on to bitterness and unforgiveness. My heart is to see you DARE to let go of that pain and choose to forgive those who have hurt you. You’ll be a brand new person if you make this decision to forgive.

Scripture:

Exodus 34:6-7 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation.”

Psalm 99:8  O LORD our God, you answered them; you were to Israel a forgiving God, though you punished their misdeeds.

Matthew 6:12-15 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Quotes

“When we forgive evil we do not excuse it, we do not tolerate it, we do not smother it. We look the evil full in the face, call it what it is, let its horror shock and stun and enrage us, and only then do we forgive it.” Lewis Smedes.

“Forgiveness is giving up all hope of having a different past.” Unknown
