13 – Pioneer Parenting {parental fear}

Jun 23, 2014Uncaged Podcast

I’m really excited to share this interview today, thanks to Family Life Today granting permission for this 2007 interview. We chatted about my book Building the Christian Family You Never Had.

The Gist:

The skinny on this episode is me telling my past story (and my parenting story) with a heavy backdrop of FEAR. Oh, so much fear. I worried I’d duplicate some of the difficult aspects of my own childhood. (Have you ever felt this way?)

Scripture: Proverbs 24:3-4

A house is built by wisdom
    and becomes strong through good sense.
Through knowledge its rooms are filled
    with all sorts of precious riches and valuables.

Quotes:

Sexual abuse is “the hardest stone the devil in hell can throw at a human being.” Dan Allender

“I may know what NOT to do as a parent, but I feared I didn’t know what TO do.” Mary DeMuth

As you may or may not know, I’m taking a much-needed sabbatical this summer. Read about that here. So I’ll be sharing some of my talks, interviews and teachings that have been a benefit to others from years past. I pray that these messages deeply, profoundly bless you.
