The Gospel: What it is and what it isn’t. Feel free to share.

5 Comments 28 August 2012

This infographic is taken from my upcoming release, Everything which officially releases October 16th. If you’d like to learn more, hop on over to the Everything site. I first learned about this concept of AYDI (though I’ve reworded and reframed it) from a church planting seminar I attended at Northwood Church in 2004.

Here’s why the message of this infographic is important: If we share half the gospel, we set people up for disillusionment. They expect to meet Jesus and have a joyful, ease-filled life. Except that those in the New Testament who followed Jesus had difficult lives. Sometimes they despaired.

Why? Because when we truly live for Jesus, the kingdom of darkness forms a target on our lives. There will be attack and difficulties.

Which is why we need to tell the whole truth. Following Jesus is HARD. But it’s worth it. It’s an incredible adventure, but it’s not without pitfalls and frustrations. The golden lining is the Holy Spirit, always with us, enabling us to persevere.

A note on this graphic: It’s free for you! Feel free to share it on Pinterest, your website, Facebook, Google Plus, or wherever it strikes your fancy. Print it off and use it in your small group. Let it become a discussion starter.

My prayer? That this concept blesses you as much as it has me.

Thank you, Mary. I love this. You’re right – so many people are led astray by AYDI. I was, for a long time. I thought, as you said, that after I met Jesus, I would have a “joyful, ease-filled life.” I have thought often of John 10:10 in the past few months: that the enemy does come to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that we might have life more abundantly, to the full (or a “rich, satisfying life” in some translations.) I have been learning that fullness and richness comes not from comfort and ease, but from adventures; from trials; from climbing the mountain and seeing the view there; and from experiencing the richness of His faithfulness and we persevere through difficulty.

May I share your graphic in our church bulletin Sunday? I think we need it.
