Beautiful Battle Launches! Win one!

48 Comments 31 January 2012

FYI: This contest closes Thursday at 5:00 PM CST. Please enter by that time. Winners will be announced on Friday!

Tomorrow is the official launch date for Beautiful Battle, my spiritual warfare book for women. I’m really interested to see how this book will impact lives. It wasn’t easy writing a spiritual warfare book, particularly because I don’t consider myself an expert. I face life and its battles just like you do. I’m frail and needy and I make lots of mistakes. But I also felt convicted that there was a need for a balanced book about spiritual warfare, one that elevates God’s supremacy over everything.

To celebrate, I’m doing two cool things.

  1. I’m hosting a “ask anything” chat over at my facebook page, Wednesday February 1st from 2:00–3:30. Stop on by and ask a question. Please share this with anyone who might be interested in this topic. Here’s a sample tweet: Join the Beautiful Battle party. http://on.fb.me/dPHQri Ask @MaryDeMuth about spiritual warfare. 2/1, 2-3:30 CST
  2. Here on this blog I’m hosting a contest to give away 5 copies of Beautiful Battle. Not only that, but the five winners get to select another one of my books (any one), and I’ll send both autographed. Here’s the contest. Submit your original creative response to the topic of Beautiful Battle (You don’t need to read it to submit.) This can be a new book cover, a song, a video, a new book trailer, an infographic, a poem, a photo, a drawing, a cartoon–basically ANYTHING you can create. See specific instructions at the end of this post.

To help you along, here are my two trailers for the book, followed by an original poem by a New Zealand poet for Beautiful Battle’s release! So cool!First, here’s a story that helped me understand the true nature of our battle, involving one of our children when we lived in France:

Beautiful Battle: 2 from Ufilmhouse.com on Vimeo.

And this second video is a segment about my heart–the deeper whys behind the book. Truth: God is truly bigger than the boogeyman!

Beautiful Battle: 1 from Ufilmhouse.com on Vimeo.

Here’s David Andrews’ poem:

Beautiful Battle

In this beautiful battle

Where you contend for me

In a war behind my eyes

That I often fail to see

In this beautiful battle

Remind me I am free

As I put on your light armor

Darkness stops then flees

In this beautiful battle

I am safe from all harm

You shelter me with your love

And hide me in your arms

In this beautiful battle

You speak to me from above

You tell me I am beautiful

I feel your extravagant love

In this beautiful battle

Where you captivate my heart

Your love and grace define me

As I become your work of art

To enter:

Here’s the skinny. To enter to win, please attach your entry in the comments section. If you have issues with making that work (usually it’s fine but sometimes it’s buggy), then simply put the entry on your blog and place a link in your comment. Also remember to add your email address like this: mary @ MaryDeMuth.com. That way spammers won’t find you, but I’ll be able to notify if you’ve won. I have a committee of sweet volunteers who will vote. Winners will be announced on my birthday, February 10th.

So be creative! I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

    Beautiful Battle Haiku

    Twisted in anguish
    I hug myself in mourning
    Tortured in spirit

    Grief stricken again
    Drowning in my own ocean
    Tears, tears…unending

    Weariness haunting
    Begging for restoration
    Not too hard for You

    Calm my winds and waves
Bring peace to my broken heart
    I need Your touch, Lord

    He comes to rescue

    Hearts of the needy ones

    Freedom from bondage

    My soul groans within
In the depth of the night, but
    Sensing Your Presence

    Washing over me
    Emotions deeper than words
    Holding on to You

    You answer my heart
    Intercession from heaven
    Stops teary torrent!

    All thanks to You, Lord
    For coming to my rescue
    Bringing Peace again

    Renewing my heart
    Restoration coming forth
    Beautiful battle!

    Beautiful Battle Hymn

The  Helmet of Salvation and the armor of God,
I don in preparation, each day before I trod.

A war of unseen danger, in forces dark to roam,
The foe that wages battle, defeated long ago.

Yet still he causes trouble, for those who love the Lord,
To Christ I cling for refuge, His Word my wielding sword.

The shield of faith surrounds me, fiery darts can’t penetrate,
On knees I face the battle with prayer I saturate.

Transformed to His own image, a miracle each day,
I’d linger in His Presence, He sends me on my way.

To serve the risen Savior, and follow His command,
Lost souls to bring to Jesus, and snatch from Satan’s hand.

For God so loved the World He gave, His one and only Son,
That whosoever should believe, would live forever on.

I’ll tell them how He loves them, from sin to set them free,
His blood He shed to save them, He died on Calvary.

I stay in prayer to wrestle; against the evil ones,
That’s where the strongholds crumble, and victory is won.

Sweet victory is given, when yielding unto Him,
To God give all the Glory, the Beautiful Battle Hymn.

    A battle won

We wage a hidden, unseen war

    in life.  While deep
    enmeshed in strife

    of everyday living, we store

    thoughts, unthought, still lying

     before  our eyes, while  time

    rushes on.

We dare not stop to look.

    Yet,

lost in noise and turmoil sore

    we need to pause: tune

    deafened ears towards that song

    from our Commander’s voice.

    ‘See the Enemy’ he calls

‘and do not weep. Such as he

    Is long defeated. This battle

Is Mine. I joy journey with

utter gladness that you are with

    Me.

    This is a beautiful time.

    Rejoice. The battle

    Battle of the Mind
    Satan in Action

Memories come flooding, and it feels like a low blow.
Opinions of self-doubt make me feel so low.
Then I remember all the reasons why
And I find myself wondering and wanting to cry.
Common sense says I am a fool to feel this way
Then the devil takes over and ruins my day.
I’m told to make a list of things about me I like.
I find that is harder than riding a bike.
My self-image has suffered and yet I know
    It is time to pick myself up and get on the road;
To win the battle that my mind has been raging,
I want to accomplish before I start aging.
So above all else it is time to forgive,
To get on with the journey and begin to live!

  • Sandra

    In the trenches.
    Deep within this fallen world.
Confused by darkness; the battle rages.
Until the ray of truth arrives.
    Illuminating the mind and heart.
    The battle belongs to another.
    Our hero and friend.
    He sets the standard.
tenderly reminding us of the beauty within each moment – even in batte.
Through surrender and trust the joy surfaces.
And a grateful heart reaches heavenward with praise.
    Hallelujah
    Victory in Jesus!

    The Epic Battle      Holly Smith

There’s an epic battle going on,

    We must become aware,
Lest we be left behind and fall

    To its accusing faire.

In the past these enemies were giants, larger than life-

Now they attack invisibly, but still put up a fight.

They come to wound, distract, and steal

    And often bring a scare,

We must learn to defend ourselves-

    Or risk falling to despair.

    Our God, who created us,

    Allowed an enemy to live,

    Equipping us for battle;

    Forming a weapon that’s fit.

    We become strong in battle and overcome his taunts;

We refuse the accusations through our alert response.

    Besides the sword for battle-

Praise and presence guards our lives.

    We make God our refuge

And speak His truth to survive.

We then become a channel for God to indwell,

The beauty of the battle is breaking chains of hell.

We stand in courage with our shield of faith held high

And do not shrink in fear

When the arrows come darting by.

    We’re crowned as His daughters,

    No longer afraid,

    Discerning his schemes,

    So others may be brave.

We now display the strength and weapon we’ve become,

That we would run to the battle to free others for the Son.

    SUDDENLY
    A door slams shut.
    SUDDENLY
A door opens on a place
    I never wanted to go.
    SUDDENLY
    Everything is changed.
    LORD, WHERE ARE YOU NOW?

Moses is dead, and we can’t find his body.
And all the children of God cry.

God said to me, “It’s time to let go of what was.
It’s time to mourn for Moses, and let him go.
I’m sending you to the Promised Land,
But you can’t take Moses in.”

Tears and tears and tears. Doubt and fear assail me.
    But I don’t know! And I can’t see!
I want to walk, Lord, but I’m not free.

But day by day He hears my cry.  He holds my hand.
He showers me with grace and when I begin to sink,
    He pulls me to Him.
Hope begins to dawn.  Trust begins to fill my heart.
I am like a weaned child – I calm myself in His arms.

I am going to be okay.

And one day – the hows, whens, and whys no longer matter.
The darkness can’t get a grip on my mind.
I sing with joy – I am trusting! I am trusting! I am trusting!

    And God shouts with delight!

    And together, we DANCE.

RE- EDITED POEM [SORRY FOR POSTING TWICE]

    Beautiful the Battle Plays

    There is a Beautiful Battle

A place with darkness and with light

    There is a Beautiful Battle

A place to see Love’s might

Satan dwells in The Beautiful Battle place

    Seen by God’s all-knowing eye

Satan fuels fear inside to make us freeze

And shames us into nothing but a lie after lie

He binds us down where we plead for mercy

    Please voices mercy! Please.

    Still they scream telling

Us what to do, what to be

Lucifer fires thoughts in repetition so terrifying

Repeat! Repeat! This is hell! This is hell!

He says there is no going to eternity

    But remember to Believe.

God’s Love comes soon most quick

    Believe in this, believe.

Our Knight who rescues, Jesus Christ,

Seems to have left us inside

    Of our Beautiful Battle to

    Somehow fight all alone where

It’s dark here with no light

    But stay and believe

    Believe in the light

    In the light

    Believe in the light

    Heaven gives treasure, believe,

To refresh us brand new whole and complete

Because of our Beautiful Battle that played

Before God and His Love where we believed

And we believed and we stayed

    Love is glorified

    Above all again as

    Another Beautiful Battle

    Ends

The Beautiful Battle that tried our life

    The Beautiful Battle

    Is meant to be Beautiful

Because now we can bask serenely

    In Love’s Most Mysterious light

This is a poem I wrote to submit as lyrics for a song.  I wrote it not long after I had to have brain surgery to remove a tumor.  During the period leading up to the surgery I was under constant attack from the enemy.  About a week after surgery God brought a vision to my mind of being rescued, that’s where this poem/song came from.

    Mary,
I know I posted this image a few days ago [the 2012 picture for the year] but when I received your email about the Beautiful Battle contest, it seemed fitting to post it for the contest. This bridge looks nothing like the image of the first bridge I had in my mind a few years ago. The first bridge was rickety and strung across a deep ravine. That deep ravine held fears. Crossing that bridge to a more beautiful place meant facing those fears and trusting old slats of wood to hold me up. Each of those slats represented a verse. Would I trust God and take Him at His word and cross that bridge? Face those fears? God brought me through a very difficult time and used that image to remind me to stand on His word. This new bridge in the attached image is a reminder to me this year to look at the challenges of life, the battle, as not quite so difficult. To remember that God has shown me I can trust in His word and face the battle. Not that I have yet “arrived”. There are days that are still a struggle but God has given me a husband and a beautiful daughter as a constant reminder of His faithfulness. Out of the battle…He has brought me to a beautiful place…the other side of the bridge….life beyond the bridge. lhopedix @ juno.com

    Suicide Loss..
    A BeautFULL Battle.
    that very second it hits..
like a scorching fire to the soul.

    A transforming breath of insanity…
    Holy Sanity.
    A battle of raw reality….
    a longing fantasy
    knowing that he’s gone

    Darkness envelops
    my soul wails out
    God Help Me!
    Living feels deathly
    then realizing HE holds me
    in that fire
    I am not really alone.

    The tree once again blooms…
    long after winter of discontent
    Beside still waters…
    Bloom where the battle plants..

    Soul changes…
    ashes sweeping…
    Garment of Salvation
    I let go….

    An entry for your contest

    OPEN LETTER TO GOD

    Lord, You care
    for me.

    You love me.

    Me – I
    disappoint you.

    I want to be
Your Warrior, but often I fall short.

    Sometimes our
    conversations are very one-sided.
I talk all the time and forget to listen.  In my heart, I know You are longing to talk to me, too.  If only I would slow down and
listen.  I fall onto my knees and
into your Word in despair when I need you.  Then I forget to talk to you when life seems to be going my
way.  I am not perfect.  You are.  Thank you for understanding and accepting my imperfection.

    In my heart, I
know you.  My soul is yours.  Why do I spend so many hours looking
around me and into the future, when what I really need to do is Look Up?

    Your perfect
love makes me want to try harder, to love more openly, and to show others who
You are.  I know this world is a
battlefield – and I know you are the Victor in this war.  What I sometimes forget is that I am in
    the battle.

    Thank you Lord,
for the battles and the good times.
You teach me Your ways in all circumstances.  I am grateful I have a loving, living God I can trust.

    I love You,
God.  I will be more passionate,
more outgoing and more loving while I am doing Your work here on earth. I
already know I have Your heart.

    Thank you for
    Your everlasting love.

    Your child on
    earth and in Heaven,

     Me

I became so hungry for the touch of God because it was the lowest  part of our lives. I felt like I was in a deep pit and I couldn’t even see the top to get out. It went on and on and there was fear, and loss and worry.  I had prayed and prayed. We had talked to our Pastor and got more prayers, but it just seemed to go on forever. One day when I was quiet, God spoke to me and gave me peace and said things are going to get better.  It was in the calm that I finally felt God was with us.

    My entry

    Beautiful Battle

    Spiritual Warfare
    How you dare
    Invading my days with despair

    When you strike
I want to take a hike
    Alas, you follow me
    with my strong dislike

    The enemy attacks
With God’s love I fight back
    God will make me strong
    He will right the wrong
    If to Him I belong

    Beautiful Battle carry your sword
With God’s love and word I will
    have my sweet reward

I do not write poetry, but this is my thoughts put to words after viewing your two clips.

Thank you Mary for who you are and all you do to help women through your books.

Mary, your book sounds so needed, and I really know what you mean when Satan can use our own children.

I’m having the judges go to my blog http://joshua-mom.blogspot.com/ to view the photo image I took for  “The Beautiful Battle.” Let’s see if this works. My E-mail:  jeanann_w@yahoo.com.
