Mind if I pray for you?

How can I pray for you today? Really!

How can I pray for you today? Really!

I mentioned earlier this week that I’ve started a new part of this site called Mind if I pray for you. I’m really excited about that, and so thankful for the privilege to pray for you.

But before I open it up to your sweet prayer requests, do you mind if I share a few of my own? Here they are:

  • Insomnia. Oh how I struggle. I’m just so tired. (And please don’t send me remedies. I’ve dealt with this for 18 years now and do have some solutions. The problem comes when I travel and everything gets whacked!)
  • Discernment about the next book I’m to write. I’m without a contract again, and I really need God’s guidance for the next step.
  • Rest. (I guess this ties in with the first one.) I need rest.

So what about you? How can I pray for you today?

We are in a desperate situation in life right now and not sure what God is doing or what He wants. Husband has been outta work for 6 months (work comp) now drs have advised a lawyer and because he went all payments stopped and all savings are gone. Our car was repo’d last week. Waiting on a settlement or work release and feels like we’re just being blowed away in the wind. We have 4 children, our youngest just turned 1. Just pray we find the strength to get through this and emerge on the other side even better than imaginable. Thank you!

    Dear Mary,
Thank you for offering to pray.  I would be grateful if you would join our family in prayer for my husband.  He is a non-stipendiary clergyman who has been running a mission as well as working a full time job.  He has been told the church will be closing the mission in the spring, and he has no further role to play in public ministry.  At the same time he has been working for a dreadfully abusive employer, and finally came to the conclusion this morning that he would have to give his notice.  He simply is on the verge of physical and psychological collapse.  Considering the current economy, you can see this is pretty serious to quit a job.  So, please, if you can, pray for my dear husband that he finds an outlet for his gifts, both spiritual and temporal.  He is a good man, with a servant’s heart. Thank you.

Lord, please help MP and her husband clearly hear from You. Help them trust you through this transition toward health. Amen.

  • Carolyn

I just read this today.  I want you to know that last night I was praying for you!  I’ve been struggling with pneumonia and for some unknown reason cannot sleep.  So lately, in the middle of the night, I just begin praying for those that God brings to mind.  And last night, in the midst of insomnia, I lifted you up to Him.  Thanks for your honesty and your willingness to be real.

    • http://www.marydemuth.com Mary DeMuth

Carolyn, how very sweet of you! Thank you!

Lord, help Carolyn heal from her pneumonia very soon!

  • Katherine

Dear Mary, a special person sent me your link and thought it would bring me some peace and balance. I am struggling, I always felt my family’s love for each other was one of my greatest blessings.  I never imagined that words and actions so painful would be spoken between my husband and my daughter and mother. My husband suffers from a brain trauma and is quick to become enraged and verbally hurtful…this has caused such pain in my heart and soul - my grandchildren, daugher and mother are emotionally drained and have suffered from his actions. He has great difficulty finding his path back. I pray for forgiveness, love and our family to be whole once again. Thank you Mary for your prayer. Katherine

    • http://www.marydemuth.com Mary DeMuth

I’m so sorry, Katherine. I can’t imagine what you’re going through!

Lord please be with Katherine. Help her and her family to endure. Be near. Touch Katherine’s husband. Amen.

Katherine, I read Luke 6 today in the Message. I’d encourage you to read that chapter. Here’s a link: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+6&version=MSG

  • Dana Hobelman

Thank you Mary for opening your heart to pray for us.  I’m from NorthPark Church and you just spoke with us last weekend…so inspiring.  Could you please pray for my husband to find the right job?  Thank you so much..he is in his 50′s and was laid off after 16 years of faithful service at a large company.  I could also use clarity and wisdom and to God’s direction in this for me as well.  We have 2 teenage daughters (one heard you speak also..:). Again, so grateful you asked!

    Dana

    • http://www.marydemuth.com Mary DeMuth

Lord, I pray for Dana’s husband to find an awesome, amazing job. Please bless their family financially. Breed faith in them in places they’ve not not to exercise it before. Give them Your direction. Grant them peace.

Oh Mary, I feel your pain in an indirect way. My husband suffers from horrible insomnia and has for his entire life and so does my youngest daughter. They need sleep desperately.
My problem is that he suffers anxiety late at night and needs me…and I’m not a night owl. I have to be up every morning for work and so by the end of the week I’m exhausted and…he needs me. I fail him often because I just can’t hold on and it’s taking a toll on both of us.
I want so much to have more energy so I can help him. I want him to be more understanding of my plight. Most of all I know the Lord will take care of us, I’m just tired.
    Thank You.
    Jessica

    • http://www.marydemuth.com Mary DeMuth

Lord be with Jessica and her husband in the night watches. Help them love each other well and understand its each others’ limitations and sleep patterns. Calm her husband so he can sleep soundly. Amen.

  • Mjsplint3

Mary, would you pray that I would commit myself to daily quiet time with the Lord. Also, would you pray for the book that I am writing; that the Lord would continue to speak through me and that this book would be eagerly received by those he has in mind to read it.
Thank you Mary. I will pray for you as well. I know the struggles with insomnia well….I did have a suggestion to offer, but will refrain. :0)

    • http://www.marydemuth.com Mary DeMuth

Lord, please work through her and give her joy to spend time with you in unique ways. Write that book, Lord. Inspire it.

  • Jennifer

Mary I also have the problem of not sleeping. It’s been going on for a few months at least and it can be so frustrating. I sometimes will get around two or three hours of sleep and then be up around 3:00 in the morning, sometimes earlier, for  the rest of the night and then sleep most of the day away.

My dad is having neck surgery on Monday. I’m praying it will make his neck better and not hurt so much. In June he bought a bike built

for two for us to ride together but because of his neck problems we haven’t been able to do this.

    • http://www.marydemuth.com Mary DeMuth

Jesus, I pray for Jennifer’s dad. May the surgery relieve his pain.

  • Rhea

    Heavenly Father,
I lift Mary up to you.  I pray for sweet rest for her. I pray for discernment in each new step she takes, and that she will know just how much you cherish her, and that you have her best in mind.  I pray that she will also reap a bounty of blessings for all the blessings she has given others.
    In Jesus’ precious name,
    Amen.

    Hi Mary,
Thank you for all your encouraging words, and for sharing your heart with your readers. I have received so much encouragement from you!

Will you pray for my severe struggles hormonally?  It has taken a toll on me, both emotionally and physically. The crippling anxiety, (which hits at the most inconvenient times by the way), is at times accompanied by chest pains, fatigue (from all the “fight or flight” adrenaline), and a feeling of hopelessness.  I know my hope is in Jesus, and that He loves me, but sometimes, when the depression is at its worst, I long for Jesus just to hold me, and for me to be able to feel it.

My husband doesn’t show affection. (He has what I believe to be Aspergers, like my teenage son).  My daughter is sweet and affectionate, but I want her to be my daughter, and not feel like she needs to comfort me.

    Thank you.
    -Rhea

    • http://www.marydemuth.com Mary DeMuth

      Thank you for your prayers.

Lord I lift up Rhea’s system. I pray You would right it. Calm her fears, her pain, her tiredness. Renew her hope. Relieve her fears and worries and sadness. Help her husband choose to hug her, and bless her daughter with joy. Amen.

      • Rhea

Thank you for praying, Mary.  It has been a very difficult road, smattered with potholes.  Unfortunately, the road led me to the emergency room today.  Everything is ok now, but it is going to be a time of desparate reliance on my Jesus.

        • http://www.marydemuth.com Mary DeMuth

          I’m so sorry! Yikes.

  • PaulaS

Sending bountiful prayers up for you.  Please pray for my knee and leg to stop hurting and cramping so I can walk a little easier. This week I must have twisted something, yet the doctors cannot find it. Bring prayers to the Almighty Physician to heal and aid in my mobility. Thanks!

    • http://www.marydemuth.com Mary DeMuth

Lord, I pray for Paula’s knee! Please heal it and give her needed rest.

  • http://www.leahadams.org Leah Adams

Oh God bless you with rest. It is awful to struggle with insomnia. It stinks. I have that problem after I speak. I am usually so keyed up that I just cannot go to sleep. So I keep a mild sleeping pill on hand for those times. I know some people are adverse to taking things like that but when i lose significant sleep, it just is not good…for me or others.

Praying God will give you rest. I’d appreciate a prayer or two for good health. Earlier this week I came down with allergies/cold/virus thingy. Any upper respiratory thing goes straight to my vocal chords which would not be so bad but I have to speak at a ladies retreat one week from today. I would love to be able to do it without coughing all the way through my two messages. Thanks so very much.

    Rest well, sweet one.

    • http://www.marydemuth.com Mary DeMuth

Thanks for praying for my sleep!

I pray for Leah’s health. Heal her respiratory woes and bring her voice to full strength for the retreat.

  • Leslie

Lord, I pray for Mary . . . that she will be able to sleep, sleep, sleep and get rested.  For the times she is unable to get the hours of sleep she needs, that you will multiply the rest she able to get.  Renew her mind and body with your energy and peace.  Also, give Mary wisdom and direction for her next book.  Give her an excitement like she hasn’t had before for the direction you are taking her.  Thank you for Mary and the blessing she is to so many!

I need prayer for a job (been looking since January), to save our home (we are about to lose it), my son (he’s 19 and his mind is slipping), my marriage (it is fractured), and grace for my other two children (17 & 10) as we all go through this time.

    • http://www.marydemuth.com Mary DeMuth

      Thanks for the sleeping prayer!

Lord, be with Leslie in every possible way. Provide. Rescue. Renew. Reform. Help her learn to rejoice in the midst of it all.

  • Gimbloom

Lord, I lift up my sisters in Christ to you.  I pray for soothing rest for Mary, continued blessings with her writings.  For Lisa, I pray your blessings about Brent during this time of transition as Lisa heals.  For Lisa, I ask for a speedy recovery. Father, for Stephanie, may writing opportunities abound in the coming months and provide financial stability for her family.  Amen

For me? I’m tackling the NaNoWriMo for the first time. Please pray I am able to carve out the time needed and slice up some God-inspired words!

    Thank you!

    • http://www.marydemuth.com Mary DeMuth

Lord, be with my friend who’s starting the NANOWRIMO soon. Give time and space and brain power!

  • http://the123blog.com Marcia (123blog)

I love your open and honest heart, Mary!

I will pray for you – I am a lover of sleep like no other and can’t imagine being you AND being such a highly functioning individual (God?).

I just had my gall bladder removed on Tues and would love prayer for my continued healing not only for this, but for a generally less stressful life (I intellectually know God’s in control but have LOTS of trouble letting go and letting Him at it :) )

    • http://www.marydemuth.com Mary DeMuth

      Thanks for praying for me!

Ouch on the gall bladder! Oh no!

Lord be with Marcia. Help her recover quickly and find joy in the process. Amen.

  • http://blada.wordpress.com/2011/10/13/lessons-from-biopsies-to-broken-bones/ LIsa

Lord, thanks for your redeeming purposes for technology. That we can use it to share prayer needs and even speak to you through it! Would you cover Mary with your peace and rest. Give her new insight to this sleep challenge. When she does wake in the night, I pray you’d use even that time to speak to her. Provide wisdom about using her writing gifts to share your truth and grace. Be praised in her life.

I’d LOVE prayer for this current season for my husband and I. I have found myself with a fractured foot this week. For someone that always has a list a mile long, this will be a challenge. Brent has been so helpful, but of course it’s hard for me to sit still with him cooking, cleaning and driving. It’ll be at least six weeks of this. Really a small inconvenience in life, but I’m praying for patience and that God uses this time for his purposes.

    • http://www.marydemuth.com Mary DeMuth

Thank you for your prayer, Lisa!

Lord, I pray for LIsa’s foot. Help her heal quickly. Use this time of slowing down to hear Your voice, learn new trust, and be blessed by Your ability. Give her hubby supernatural joy and patience as he serves. Amen.

  • Stephanie Clayton

Dear lord, thank you for Mary and her beautiful gifts. Help her to rest. Even when she travels. Equip her with mercy, grave and discernment in Jesus name, amen.

As for me…just continued prayers for sustainment. That God will sustain me through the writing process and that the ministry God has gifted me with will become something that can sustain my family financially.

    Thank you for prayers!

    • Stephanie Clayton

That was supposed to say “grace” not grave…whoops!

      • http://www.marydemuth.com Mary DeMuth

Yeah, but it made me laugh!

        • http://www.marydemuth.com Mary DeMuth

I need to sleep like the grave! :)

    • http://www.marydemuth.com Mary DeMuth

Amen, Lord, help Stephanie’s writing sustain her family. Give her joy in the journey and surprising provision, even this week.
