Author Heather Goodman interviewed me and made some nice comments over at her blog today about The Writing Spa. I’d love it if you’d jump on over there and bless her with a comment!

I’ve been crabby lately as highlighted in this post. This morning on my run, all my impatience flew up before me. I couldn’t wait to get home and apologize to my kids. “I’m so sorry I’ve been grumpy,” I told each one. “Will you forgive me?” They did. And a weight lifted.
But now I’m thinking about the temporary worker at the eye glasses place who I was snippy with. She didn’t normally work there; she was filling in from another store. She helped me patiently while I browsed for new eyewear. Then I shopped, came back…

When we were missionaries in France, we found out we sold our home back in Texas to a conman which necessitated we go into foreclosure (kind of like a forced foreclosure). Obviously, the whole scenario was very painful, bewildering and demoralizing. Especially since the man had attended our church!
Imagine, though, how breathless I was when I read this account today. Please take a moment to read the story about a woman who bought a foreclosed home and gave it back to the previous owner. Even cooler, the generous woman is from our town. Now that’s grace….

That’s what I call myself when I’m having a crabby day. There’s no good reason to be crabby. After all, it’s gorgeous outside. I do have a headache, but it’s not unmanageable. I did a little shopping and didn’t spend too much. (I did splurge on a tall, black, chunky candlestick holder for my dining table for 1o bucks and I feel a little guilty, but I’m learning to be grace-giving to myself.)
Part of it is the monthly thing. I hate to admit it. I joked with Patrick today that I’d like my uterus taken out.

“Never make a principle out of your experience; let God be as original with other people as He is with you.” Oswald Chambers.
A lot of our angst with others centers around our preconceived design for their lives. We think we know what’s best, or what’s right for them. And when they violate our perceived boundaries, we judge. Thinking that way can become a barrier.
Today I’m remembering a friend, letting her go into God’s sweet, beautiful hands. He has a plan for her life, a unique blueprint just for her. Her journey is not mine. In…

Thomas Merton wrote, “To allow oneself to be carried away by a multitude of conflicting concerns, to surrender to too many demands, to commit oneself to too many projects, to want to help everyone in everything, is to succumb to violence.”
I think Thomas had a special view into today’s world when he prophetically penned those words. Would you agree?
Oh how we need to say the divine NO when demands knock at our door. The truth? We are not God. We do not hold the universe together (thankfully). When did it become all about us and…

Our friend Steve Warren crossed over from death into life several weeks ago. He lived a life of beauty and faith. His widow recently posted this video, the one they played at his memorial service. It’s of Steve sharing how he coped with his sudden cancer and the astounding faith he had in Jesus Christ to take care of his wife and boys. You can watch it here. Be prepared to be changed.

To Know Your Name. Makes me cry. And sing. And abandon myself.

Annie Dillard said these deep, yet simple words:
“How we live our days is . . . how we live our lives.”
Think about that a minute or two or sixty.
Unfortunately for me, there are two Marys. One Mary who wishes to live a radical life, a life of great dependence on Jesus Christ, a life of deep connection with others, a life of unfettered worship. Then there’s Reality Mary, the Mary of the daily life. She’s not all that. She’s terribly needy, ordinary, besetted, and flimsy.
But if Annie is right, the fundamental…
